Workload fully in control, a four week holiday in India about to start in two weeks, a four day weekend about to start in a day, a shopping feast in two days, a good dollar balance to splurge, all claims cleared by payables – enough to make me feel on top of the world! Can life get any better?
RP: (moving his strained eyes away from his computer, as he sees me enter) ‘So, how is it going?’
Me: (with a smile that stretched from ear to ear, pulling a chair out to sit, without being asked) ‘Great going.... just waiting for tomorrow.’
RP: (with a curious smile) ‘What is tomorrow?’
Me: (smiling jubilantly) ‘Start of a four-day weekend!!’
RP: (himself looking very pleased at the thought) ‘Ah.. yes!’
Me: ‘So, any clarity on what the next steps would be?’
RP: (smile turning to a look of mild despair) ‘I don’t know.’
Me: ‘Well, do you think I need to have someone to cover for me full-time while I am vacationing in India? I know Steve would be out of the country half of December; so will a few others, really have to check for availabilities.’
RP: (now looking serious, as if struck with the sudden realization that I would be away for almost a month) ‘Ahhhh… yes. Let us talk to Scott about that. We’ll need someone.’
Me: ‘Handing over this 60 tab excel model to someone will be some task.’
A pause.
Me: (batting eyelids) ‘I think you would be the best person to do anything with this model, in my absence. Anyone else will have to learn from the scratch.’
RP looks at me as if he is trying to believe that I actually suggested that a person as senior as him should be covering for me, a cheeky, outspoken girl, four and a half years out of B-school.
RP: (Trying to regain composure) ‘I agree. But you need to have someone to take care of it all. It will get difficult for me to take care of all the nuances.’
He probably doesn’t believe in that level of equality as much as I do. Sigh.
Me: (with a smug look) ‘Okay, I will check.’
Another headache. As if all these months of eighteen hour work days weren’t enough. With less than two weeks remaining for my first vacation in one year to start, suddenly there are so many things to take care of.
Panic mode.
Move to a new apartment, complete my performance assessment, do the shopping to take home to India for distribution as ‘America se laye hain’ stuff to the dear and the faithful, do the packing, and some thousand other things before I finally leave on the 4th.

Whats there in a name?
This is now the third time I've done it in the bare five months of this blog's existence - changed what the web link leading to this blog reads.
'The silver doe' had been inspired by the last Harry Potter I read.
As I was walking back from the Westchester Mall today, somehow I got thinking about it. The silver doe... I just suddenly felt so terribly discontented with the name.
Happens all the time.
There are very few things I stay satisfied with over a fairly long period of time. And if I can affect change, I do it.
I decided to change the nomenclature to point to things that I like today, and have liked practically my whole life. Things I know, I would go on liking eternally, forever.
And hence, the new name!
